How sound design enhances your visual content.

Sound design is used as a tool that aids films and commercials to evoke emotions in the audience

Video content without good sound design removes the emotional depth from what could be a great story. Even worse…bad sound can have direct negative effects on how your visual projects come across.

Let's take a look at how important sound design is to your films or commercials and why you should care.

Strong Impact

Well-crafted sound design can have a strong impact to attract the right people. It complements the effectiveness of your film or commercial, hence maximizing the effect on the audience and giving more meaning to your visual content.

We hear emotions

While it’s important to have the right equipment, software, and SFX libraries to create sounds, sound design is all about emotion. You can be the best sound engineer in the world but if you don’t know how to create a certain emotion with sound design, your project won’t be good. Think about how certain scenes/locations make you feel. What is the story telling us and how do invoke those feelings with just sounds? It can be as simple as a distant siren to imply danger, or chair creaks to create an ominous feeling.

Subtle details

Even the silent moments have sound. This is a very effective technique, which is used in movies and films when a character is walking down the street, and the whole scene is silent. The audience still “hears” the wind, their footsteps, or the rustling of leaves.

Sound design does most of its work when it doesn't distract you at all; when the soundtrack is so subtle and integrated that it leaves no impression — that’s when a good sound designer has done their job well. If you can add sound design that isn’t jarring (unless intentional), without drawing attention to itself, then the goal has been achieved.

Poor audio will ruin your film

Did you know? Studies have shown that films with poor visuals but clear audio are usually perceived as more watchable than films with strong images but poor audio. Why? A film without good sound design is like a cake without icing: good but not great! Video is the most impactful medium today, but bad sound can zap all the emotion and impact.

Taking your visual material to the next level

You wouldn't tell your story with words alone, so it's only natural that you bring in the element of sound to give a lift to your visual material.
